Application
The scope of applications for one-way clutches covers a wide spectrum from small office machines to heavy machinery and systems up to 2.5 mW and 20 km long conveyors.

Many designs have been developed to satisfy specific customer requirements, thus providing the optimum solution for their application.

1.Gear Reducers

Here one-way clutches are used as integral backstops in drive systems for conveyors, industrial fans, pumps, crushers, mixers, kilns and turbines. One-way clutches are also widely used as overrunning clutches in auxiliary or pony drives and dual-drive systems. Stieber offers solutions for long life and maintenance free operation.

2.Printing Machines

The classic application in printing machines is the inking roller auxiliary drive. But one-way clutches have also been used extensively as indexing devices, to provide an inexpensive and reliable means of achieving a mechanical variable speed drive for the inking roller main drive. Stieber know-how results in inexpensive, customised solutions even for the most demanding applications.

3.Conventional and Nuclear Power Plants

Stieber backstops are used extensively on pumps used in the primary and secondary cooling systems of power generating equipment. Stieber is certified to KT 1401 as an authorised supplier for the nuclear power industry.

4.Textile Machines

There is a wide range of applications for Stieber clutches in textile machinery, especially in circular knitting machines, thread preparation, bobbin winding and looms. In applications using sprag clutches the special Formchrome finish used in our ball bearing series of one-way clutches offers an exceptionally long life in overrunning applications.

5.Automotive Industry
There is a wide range of applications in the automotive manufacturing sector. Overrunning clutches on conveyor systems and engine test bed starter mechanisms, exhaust fan backstops in spray painting booths. The multiplicity of designs offered by Stieber offers the designer the best opportunity to achieve the perfect "fit".

6.Clay Pigeon Traps

In this common application a one-way clutch is used as a backstop to prevent the arm of the trap "bouncing" back after a launch. The rugged Stieber roller-ramp design provides a reliable solution for this demanding but price sensitive application.

7.High Voltage Switch Gear

Here a one-way clutch is used as a backstop to secure the actuating spring pre-load position. The quality and reliability of the chosen Stieber product ensures instantaneous applied torque and a firm "latch".
